100% of anodised finish retained after one million footfall

At Gooding Aluminium, we understand that high-traffic environments demand more than just aesthetic appeal: they require materials that last. That’s why our premium stair nosings are not only sleek in appearance but engineered for exceptional durability and safety.
Made from high-grade aluminium alloy, these stair nosings are finished with a hard-wearing anodised surface, making them ideal for interior applications in commercial buildings, transport hubs, educational institutions and high-end residential projects.
Proven durability under pressure
Our premium stair nosings have been independently tested by SATRA Technology – a recognised global authority in product testing. During their rigorous examination, the stair nosings underwent one million simulated footfalls (500,000 ascending and 500,000 descending).
The result? Zero loss of anodised coverage.
Only minimal sole marking was detected on the surface, with no cracking, peeling or structural damage.
These results confirm that Gooding Aluminium’s anodised stair nosings offer long-term performance, making them ideal for environments where both resilience and visual quality are essential.
Options for every application
Our Premium Stair Nosing Range includes two main types:
- Premium Stair Nosings: for board, concrete and wood floor finishes
- Premium CMS Stair Nosings: for ceramic, marble and stone flooring
Both profiles feature a neat fluted surface for improved slip resistance, with a clean and contemporary appearance. For a seamless look, all nosings are supplied pre-drilled with countersunk holes and include self-adhesive tread inserts for quick, discreet installation.
These stair trims are dry-fit ready, making them ideal for interior projects requiring minimal disruption or downtime.
A hardwearing, colourfast finish
Unlike painted surfaces, the anodising process chemically bonds colour pigment into the surface of the aluminium, while also thickening its natural oxide layer. This means the finish:
- Is deeply embedded into the metal
- Won’t chip or flake
- Resists UV fading
- Offers enhanced corrosion protection
- Delivers a low-maintenance, high-impact result.
Anodised nosings are also available in black or natural silver finishes, giving designers the flexibility to coordinate with a range of flooring and interior schemes.

Slip and wear testing results
Slip resistance
GA Premium Stair Nosings were tested using the BS 7976‑2:2002 pendulum method, which simulates the foot contact slip potential of surfaces. The nosings scored in the Low Slip Potential category (PTV 36+) – a strong result for internal pedestrian areas.
Wear resistance
SATRA’s wear test used GA product code 1409 with a black anodised finish. After one million biomechanical footfalls, the nosing showed only slight sole markings – with no surface damage or failure.
These test results also apply to Premium CMS nosings, as the extended back edge does not affect wear resistance.
